Michigan Virtual™ operates one of the larger state virtual schools in the country with over 28,000-course enrollments in SY 2017-18. Formerly known as Michigan Virtual University® & Michigan Virtual School®, they have been working to pioneer the landscape of online and blended learning for students and educators since 1998.
The Michigan Virtual ecosystem thrives upon the interplay of their three key service areas. Accredited by AdvancED, they partner with over 500 Michigan K-12 school districts to offer online courses to middle and high school students. Their success stems from a commitment to providing these students with better virtual learning opportunities in our increasingly digitized world. Each and every one of the 200+ online courses they offer is taught by a highly qualified, Michigan-certified educator who is trained in best practices for online pedagogy.
The second arm of their work lies in professional learning. Michigan Virtual has a long history of providing continued learning opportunities to those who form the backbone of Michigan’s educational system. They are proud to offer over 300 online courses to education personnel, many of which count for State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs).
Last, but certainly not least, is the Michigan Virtual Learning Research Institute®. The goals of the Institute are two-fold. First, their researchers conduct studies to improve the tools, methodologies, and effectiveness of virtual education. Next, they put these findings into motion by serving as Michigan’s thought leader in online and blended learning.
